Internship Openings
Internships at Virya Counseling
Virya Counseling Center accepts interns on a rolling basis from Naropa University and the University of Denver. Virya prepares graduate students for private practice counseling with a comprehensive training program that allows prospective counselors to experience aspects of private practice while remaining fully supported by Virya Counseling Center.
Applicants from other universities are encouraged to apply, we welcome the opportunity to create new relationships.
Interns at Virya Counseling Center participate in all aspects of client care, including consultation, intake, assessment, counseling and psychotherapy, coordination of care, and termination, as well as scheduling and documentation. Interns are matched with a supervisor and attend weekly individual supervision as well as weekly group supervision and weekly trainings. In addition to clinical training, interns at Virya are trained in most administrative aspects of private practice as well as working with Medicaid and other insurance panels. Interns at Virya are eligible to be considered for employment after successful completion of the internship program. Internships are generally 12 months.

Virya Counseling Center is a Medicaid provider. All interns are required to serve Medicaid clients and are expected to produce timely documentation in accordance with professional standards set forth by the state of Colorado.
Due to the intimate nature of counseling and psychotherapy, clients often request counselors of a specific identiy or social location. Virya Counseling Center aims to maintain a cohort of counselors from diverse social identities and locations in order to provide clients with the best possible opportunity to feel seen and safe.
Virya Counseling Center training program accepts applicants who are enrolled in a Masters program in either clinical psychology or professional social work. The training program is designed to help interns increase their clinical competence as psychotherapists while being supported by in a community setting. Areas of training include:
Conducting consultations, intakes, and assessments.
Providing individual, couple and/or group therpay.
Attending and participating in organization in-service trainings.
Case presentations and peer consultations.
Preparation and participation in clinical supervision with licensed staff members.
Documentation standards for Medicaid.
Eligibility Requirements
Enrollment in a masters level program.
Approval from the program to seek internship.
Willingness to make a 12-month, 15-hours per week commitment.

A letter of intent with a description of your interest in Virya Counseling Center
Documentation from your program delineating the requirements of a placement
A current CV or resume. Significant time gaps (over 6 months) without work or education should be explained
Three reference letters, including one from a person who has direct knowledge of your counseling skills, and one from a person that has supervised you in a work environment. Applications that do not include a reference from a supervisor will not be considered.
An unofficial transcript.
A copy of a graded APA academic paper with professor’s comments. Must have APA style literature references. No “reflection papers” please. Only one paper please.
